In Honor of Kaitlin

It's my niece Katie's birthday.

She is the most intelligent kid I know.

I take credit for it though since I am the one responsible for teaching her father at a very young age!

He, being my little brother, is five years younger than I. When I was that magical age of 8 and I thought I would someday grow up to be a teacher, I forced, I mean encouraged him to sit for hours as my pupil....homework and all!

He actually was a great student. Followed in my footsteps to attend UC Davis and continued on receiving his MBA.

Now, he has a job as a consultant for some "big wig" firm and no one knows exactly what he does.

OK, back to Katie......Along with being so smart she also is a dancer.

So I stitched up this dance bag for her.

Isn't this just the cutest fabric?

So, In honor of Katie, the smartest kid I know, here is some semi interesting information about Lepidoptera's.

("New Word Wednesday" has been moved to Saturday!)

Lepidoptera is an order of insect that includes moths and butterflies. It is one of the most speciose orders in the class Insecta, encompassing moths and the three superfamilies of butterflies, skipper butterflies, and moth-butterflies.

Members of the order are referred to as lepidopterans.

A person who collects or studies this order is referred to as a lepidopterist.

This order has more than 180,000 species[1] in 128 families and 47 superfamilies.

The name is derived from Ancient Greek λεπίδος (scale) and πτερόν (wing).

I just like to draw and color them!

I was a Design major!

Happy Birthday Katie!

Black and Blue

This week seemed to be a tribute to Black and Blue.

I must have needed a quick visual neutralization from the color Red for a few days.

My buddy Lauren and I put together our first "Diaper Cake" for a baby shower this weekend. Flickr has about a million photos of these cute gifts. They are fun and easy to put together. The secrete tip is to fold the diapers in half and place them inside a ring of elastic. That holds them in place nicely.

```````````````````````
I received an order for an apron this week.
Can you tell I've become quite addicted to creating these?
I sent the pink and yellow one over for a donation gift to The Pink Artist Project for
Susan G Komen Breast Cancer Research.
You can place a donation and have your name entered into the drawing by going to
Breast cancer has now touched the lives of my mother-in-law, aunt, two best friends and most recently a male friend....
So guys, you too need to GET checked!
Napa Valley Wedding Season
Summer's here and that means wedding season here in the Napa Valley.This beautiful home and grounds are available to rent.
This last weekend I spent working with my good buddy staging a MOCK wedding for photos.
I did flowers, bouquets and corsages even.
This beautiful plantation style house has 7 bedrooms and a cottage on the perfectly groomed and managed vineyard estate. Porch decking outside every room. You travel a short distance through rolling hills and vineyards to get to this tucked away site.
This place is immaculate.
In fact I had to go on quite a scavenger hunt to find a hand full of rocks to place in the bottom of a container to add weight!
Couldn't even find them next to the vines!
If your looking to tie the knot soon, e-mail me and I'll tell you all about it.
"ookie"
Tony the mailman, arrived today with yet another box for ME!
Hubbies getting jealous.
I received the cutest apron from Mona in Missouri, for the Summer Fun Apron Swap
hosted by Abby at Feathered Nest.
How yummy is this...and the pocket goes entirely across the front!
It came with this great book and a ice cream cone cookie cutter.
Did you see the special word?
No, it's not "ookie".
How cool is that!
NO BAKE!
I love it because I love aprons and HATE cooking!
Isn't this all as cute as can be?
Yep, this is how I'm going to wear it!
Then Tony the mailman comes again!
This time I receive "Natalie". Isn't she a dear....I mean deer!
She came from Cornflake girl on etsy.
Check her store out, she has some pretty cute items.
And I received a magic wand from Christine at Extra Sprinkles
I won this by naming her pink poodle, with quite the cover girl lashes,
"Tammy Faye"
I love the wand but I am doing something wrong.
I keep waving it over the dishes but nothing happens!
It's beautiful but obviously faulty because when she waved it over her hubbie at her house it made him color blind!
(now you have to go to her site to see what I mean! ~smile~)
My Morning
I wake up in the morning, get dressed and head to 7-11 for a coffee.
I know Starbucks is great but way too expensive for EVERY day.
Then I drive home, turn on the computer and
check my e-mail while I allow the coffee to do its stuff.
So today, like every other day, I sit to peruse my mail, when I click onto
Girl Gone Thread Wild's new blog post...........
I can't believe my eyes!
I stare fixated at the screen as my mouth drops open...........
This is the most amazing art I have ever seen!
Fabric, paint, thread, color, texture, buttons,
embroidery, quilting, sketching....
You name it, she did it!
As soon as I picked myself up off the floor,
I had that serge of creative energy.
So, I sat amazed for a few more minutes....
then did what any other frustrated crafter would do......laundry!
Monica, you all know from the Pink Artist Project.
What an inspiration.
Stop by and tell her Running with Scissors said, to go see
Girl Gone Thread Wild.
I saw RED again
RED noun
One of the psychological primary hues evoked in the normal
observer by the long-wave end of the spectrum.
Whatever that means........
I say....One big event to bring art to the kids!
The RED PARTY December 2008
hosted by Life Through Art Foundation
Check here to see who else is having psychological hues evoked.
I Saw RED
When one is invited to attend a RED Party...what does one wear?
Embroidered lace? Hand beading?
What if I told you all proceeds go to fund educational opportunities in the ARTS for children?
What you you wear then?
Gold couched metal? Chiffon and ribbons?
Doesn't it make you want to attend?
How about using your talents to create a piece of art to help raise funds for the kids?
What would you wear then?
Let me know if your interested...detail to follow.
